I will be conducting an "Open Studio" during February, Tuesdays and Thursdays, noon til 4pm. The Open Studio is located in the vacant storefront in the Page Brothers Building, 177 N. State Street. Presented by the Public Art Program of the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs, the Open Studio Program invites selected artists to work in the space in a series of month-long residencies.
I will introduce some new "Dream Keepers", several new wall hangings, and a cast of other pieces. I will also create a new work during my stay that will focus on the downtown area and if you are in that vicinity stop by and see me.
Approximately 50 artists have occupied the studio since the program began in April 2003, including painter Lowell Thompson, ceramicist Fred Wilson, installation collaborators Lucy Slivinski and Michael Thompson and chainsaw artist Benjamin Schlitz. The artists have demonstrated a wide variety of media, including painting, fashion, ceramics, photography, site-specific installations and the creation of a Tibetan healing sand mandala.
